1 Keep me safe, my God,
for in you I take refuge.

I love how he recognized that when God was evident in his life, there was joy. Isn’t that true, joy is beyond happiness, because it is not dependent on circumstances but who is with us in them. But notice that this is the end of the song. A person must make choices for God and away from idols. “those who run after other gods will suffer more and more”. God must become primary in our lives… “Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup”. Diligence and discipline in our relationship are necessary and the blessing begin to flow… “the boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places, surely I have a delightful inheritance”.
How about me, am I experiencing what David sang about? Yes, in many ways. Checking myself, am I committed to God first and foremost? Yes, the things that matter for eternity (relationships, salvation, God’s favor) all these eternal pleasures are mine. Praise God!
Lord, thank you for the joy and pleasure you bring to my life. You did not let Jesus see decay and you will not let me see decay as well. What a promise born out of the resurrection! This is a happy Easter!
