Causes We Care About

My family and I believe in living for something greater than ourselves, serving other people and making a difference in the world.  I bet you feel that way too!

Our motivation come from a desire to fulfill the second great commandment.  Jesus said we are to “love our neighbors as ourselves.”

Our hope is that our lives might inspire others to greater service.  In the end, the measure of our lives will not be ‘accumulation’, but rather ‘donation’.

Here are a few of the organizations and activities that have captured our hearts over the years.

We encourage anyone interested and financially able to support a child with the spiritual and educational opportunities provided through either Compassion International or CMF.

We sponsor children through Compassion International and CMF International.  These precious children receive education, medical care, and the message of hope found in the gospel.   For the better part of our 31 years of marriage we have raised our own kids and sponsored others.  What a joy to see children from Central America, Philippines, India, and Kenya grow up as we prayed for them, wrote letters, sent gifts and sponsored them.

Maureen recently had the privilege of visiting our sponsor child in Nairobi, Kenya.  It was a once in a lifetime opportunity to encourage her in person!

Years ago, friends of ours made a bold move to change careers, raise support and help people in crisis marriages.  Art & Jen Powell serve as missionaries through campus crusade helping husbands and wives protect, save and enhance their marriages through Family Life Ministries.  We are proud to be one of their many sponsors.  If your marriage needs enhancement, please consider a Weekend to Remember conference.

Royal Family Kids Camp is a week long experience like no other for children (5-11 years old) who in the Foster Care System.  I have the honor of being a board

member and seeing hundreds of kids enjoy summer camp, fishing, and other experiences that create life-long positive memories.  This week is also a res-spit for caregivers and foster parents.  The children are treated like royalty.  We have helped other churches start RFKC programs as well.  Crossroads has gained approval from the County of Riverside to hosts a weekend mentoring program as well.  Our goal is to see every foster child in our county benefit from this

program.

Since its inception, we have loved being part of Tim Tebow’s idea- Night to Shine Prom for families with a disabled loved one.  This amazing night is heartwarming, fun, and filled with joy.  For the last three years we join others around the United States treating people with physical and emotional disabilities to a night of dancing, dinner, dressing up, and more.  In the end, each participant is crowned as a king or queen and hears an encouraging message from Tim Tebow.  I’ve sat next to High school football players who are “buddies” and dates.   It occurs on the Friday before Valentine’s Day.  Please consider joining us next year!

For eight years we Doug has traveled to the border of Texas and Mexico to deliver much needed food, build homes for people, minister to the poor, visit those in prison and encourage missionaries and pastors with the men of Power Ministry.
