“And He began to teach and say to them, “Is it not written, ‘MY HOUSE SHALL BE CALLED A HOUSE OF PRAYER FOR ALL THE NATIONS’? But you have made it a ROBBERS’ DEN.” The chief priests and the scribes heard this, and began seeking how to destroy Him; for they were afraid of Him, for the whole crowd was astonished at His teaching.” Mark 11:17-18
Quoting Isaiah 56:7, Jesus reminds everyone that the temple was not only a place of worship for the Jews, but that they were to invite in those Gentile believers who were committed to God. The buying and selling that was going on was an offense to Jesus. His reference to Isaiah may indicate that the leaders were not fulfilling that wonderful role.
How about me? Are there things cluttering my worship and tarnishing God’s invitation through me to others to come and worship Him?
Lord I want my life (house) to be a place of prayer. Help me be true to You and to remove any money changing tables in the way. God, please draw my friends and family close to You and into this wonderful relationship.
