Made in the Shade

And He said, “How shall we picture the kingdom of God, or by what parable shall we present it? “It is like a mustard seed, which, when sown upon the soil, though it is smaller than all the seeds that are upon the soil, yet when it is sown, it grows up and becomes larger than all the garden plants and forms large branches; so that THE BIRDS OF THE AIR can NEST UNDER ITS SHADE.” Mark 4:30-32

The kingdom of God is wherever God is king and rules the hearts of men. The kingdom of God was “at hand” when Jesus walked through Galilee, Samaria and Jerusalem, 2000 years ago. The kingdom of God is likened to a mustard seed (the gospel) that falls upon soil (a human heart) and becomes the overwhelming priority of a man’s life.

Its funny how it all started for me. I responded to an invitation at a Greg Laurie outreach. And I thought in my mind that ‘going forward’ and ‘praying a prayer’ was the end of this Christian experience. Little did I know it was the mustard seed that has grown to an amazing devotion to Jesus Christ and a life that hopefully many ‘find shade’.

God, today I want to be conscious of the growing kingdom in my heart. The kingdom is You, first and foremost. Well up within in me. Let me reach out and express the kindness and love of Jesus Christ. Fill me up and provide for me, so I might do so for others. Amen.
