“We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.” 1 John 3:16
God defined love (the highest level of love) to be Jesus’ sacrificial death on my behalf. The implication is that I would follow His example and “lay down my life” for other believers.
How do I practically lay down my life? I set aside my agenda, desires, needs, and bump up in priority the agenda, desires and needs of others. Wow. This could leave me vulnerable and at times having what I want or need go unmet. That’s where faith comes in. Do I really believe God will keep His promise to me… to meet all my needs according to His riches in Christ Jesus? Yes.
Lord, I will look to others first today. Help me do it. I trust You! Please, don’t leave me hanging.
