Servants and Friends

Zacharias said to the angel, “How will I know this for certain? For I am an old man and my wife is advanced in years.” The angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news. “And behold, you shall be silent and unable to speak until the day when these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their proper time.” Luke 1:18-20

Even though he was seeing an angel of the Lord, ironically, Zacharias asks for a sign. Lol. How about the sign that you are speaking to an angel? God would be gracious and give him a personal weakness (he was made mute) until the miracle was completed and John the Baptist was born into the world.

Do I ask for signs when the miracle is right in front of me. I bet I do. I hope that my faith would be such that God was visible and I was always aware of what He was doing. Jesus said ‘I no longer call you slaves, but friends, because a slave doesn’t know what a master is doing, but you know’.

Lord, I look forward to seeing you work in obvious ways. May the first sign be obvious to me. Find me to be your close friend who knows what you are doing… though I have the attitude of a servant.
