I have seen all the works which have been done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity and striving after wind. What is crooked cannot be straightened and what is lacking cannot be counted. Ecclesiastes 1:14-15
King Solomon saw it all that mankind does apart from God and found it to be empty. Its like trying to grasp the wind… you simply can’t find satisfaction in worldly endeavors alone. With all his vast (seemingly unlimited) resources and knowledge, Solomon confesses that he couldn’t pull it off! Though he accomplished magnificent achievements architecturally, politically, agriculturally, etc. he felt like he couldn’t do what was in his heart… or even get close (what is crooked cannot be straightened).
How about me? As much as I like building here in this earthly kingdom and working on projects, programs etc… have I realized that ‘under the sun’, which means ‘apart from God’s influence’, that its all vanity? Oh, yes I have. Not to say, I don’t get fooled into temporary endeavors.
God, thank you that so much of what You have purposed my life for will actually count in eternity. I praise you that I am a pastor ministering to people and that I serve in a school that makes an eternal difference in the lives of thousands. I don’t need to grasp the wind, I have a solid rock which is Jesus Christ!
