But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. 2 Peter 2:1
One thing that seems to be constant is the depravity of the human condition. And sadly, false teachers that mislead God’s people find their way into places of prominence (teachers, preachers, prophets). It is important then, that every believer knows God and His Word personally. We must discern truth from error. Peter says that God will judge the false prophets and teachers.
How solid is my understanding of God’s Word? Is there any area of my doctrine (since I have a platform for teaching) that is off base? I feel pretty confident that I am solid because of the training and teaching I have received. My doctrine lines up with orthodox Christianity and is consistent with the teaching of church leaders throughout the last 2,000 years.
God, what a high calling and responsibility to share and teach Your Word. I feel privileged to proclaim the gospel. Help me always discern the meaning and application of the Bible so I can help people know You. You are my sovereign Lord, who bought me. I am Yours.
