Word Power

word powerFor the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Hebrews 4:12-13

God’s word has a unique and powerful way of transforming a person. In this passage, the writer to the Hebrews says it will cause the promises of God to be fulfilled, specifically that God’s people will enter “rest”. All this encompasses is uncertain to me, but it is a rest similar to the rest God has experienced after creating the world. It has a sense of permanence. The rest we experience is a result of our forgiven sins.

Am I running around trying to “make up for my sins”? Or have I by faith, accepted the grace of God and ceased from that work?

God, Your grace really is enough. I feel as if I have entered Your rest. As a result, I find in myself a desire to be more obedient that ever. Today, lead me along by Your Spirit, discerning Your will in all my decisions. Oh, I love Your Word! Bring all I have ever read in the Bible to my mind as I need it in each situation.
