In the same way, you wives, be submissive to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives, as they observe your chaste and respectful behavior. Your adornment must not be merely external—braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God. 1 Peter 3:1-4
Women have power over men. I don’t mean an absolute ‘svengali-like’ ability to control our very thoughts. Instead, our wives, in particular, influence us greatly by their words, attitudes and behavior, without us really even noticing. That’s Peter’s point. Wives, use the Christlike character that is developed in you, to “win” your husband to the Lord! The manner in which you live each day says more than even words. Chasteness is a way of living (modesty) that communicates an inner quality that inspires reverence and purity in others. So when you are getting dressed, doing your make-up, make sure your are adorning yourself on the inside too. (btw, I chose this title to get your attention… did it work?)
In what ways has my wife inspired me to reverence? How has she influenced my spiritual life and relationship with God?
God, as this day begins- I am so grateful for my lovely wife. What a gift! She indeed does and has for these many years, inspired me to be more and more the man You want me to be. Her example is a constant reminder of what You are like. For that I am grateful and I rejoice! Now, would You lead and guide me throughout this day. Help me discern Your will and to reach out and love someone in Your name. Amen.
