Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have found your deeds unfinished in the sight of my God. Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; hold it fast, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.
Sardis was an active, alive church making a difference and earning a good reputation. But they didn’t finish the deeds God had planned. There are a lot of things in life that go unfinished. In my opinion, lots of projects get 90% along, and the last 10% is never completed. This frustrates me because within my personality I have a need for closure. Maybe God does too. The believers in Sardis are to ‘wake up’, strengthen themselves and the church by remembering the gospel, make it precious and in doing so turnaround and finish!
Great advice, but how about me? What is unfinished on my ministry plate? How about dreams God has given me?
Lord, I praise You on one hand that I still have purpose and unfinished business on Your behalf here on earth. On the other hand, I hope I haven’t displeased You with that which remains unfinished. I am awake. Let’s finish something today.
