Who Reads The Bible?

In my lifetime I have read portions of the Bible many times. And yes, I have read the entire Bible as well. Fewer endeavors have been as rewarding. With all the media we consume (videos, binge watching TV series, magazines, instagram posts, etc.) you’d think more people would set a goal of reading the entire Bible. I know one reason why they don’t. Its because it can be confusing getting the gist of the context. What (or exactly Who) is this story all about? What does it have to do with me? Even the disciples who grew up steeped in the Old Testament understanding had trouble understanding how it was all leading up to a suffering Messiah who would be crucified then resurrected to glory. So, I have a lot of grace for people wanting to know God and the Bible. My offer is that I will teach any man (or young man) the Bible if he is sincere. Imagine how fortunate and foolish the two walking on the road to Emmaus felt when Jesus, Himself taught them from the old testament?

And then He said to them, “You foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!  Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to come into His glory?”  Then beginning with Moses and with all the Prophets, He explained to them the things written about Himself in all the Scriptures. Luke 24:25-27 NASB

How well do I know and understand the Bible? How well do I know and understand the central figure of the Bible- Jesus, the Son of the living God?

God, as this day begins- I thank you for insight, understanding and knowledge (first hand knowledge) of Your dear Son. I know that You have given me the Holy Spirit to lead and guide me into all truth. Please continue day by day to reveal Your will, Your ways, and Your love to me through the scriptures. May I hunger for them as I hunger for You. In my prayers today are some very special people- Jack-a-boo, Jeff, and Jeanetta. All have very different needs in their lives. Meet them where they are and use me to be an encouragement!
