See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ. For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority.
Often I have asked non-believers, what is the maximum authority in your life? Most of the time it comes down to ‘me’. Some will say they adhere to some life philosophy, others a religious code. The Bible says, we should be careful so no one deceives us into living according to anything contrary to Jesus Christ, our maximum authority. His ways and teachings should always be the dominant and deciding force in our lives.
Am I living in any way (in thought or deed), contrary to Him? Have I allowed any traditions of man, philosophy, political thought, or anything else that is not according to Christ to permeate my life? I hope not, and I am open to God’s thorough inspection.
God, I thank You that I have the Bible and the Spirit of God to adjust my thinking and way I live. As the Psalmist said “see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting”. Help me to live under the wonderful ways of Jesus Christ.
