Many are saying of my soul, “There is no deliverance for him in God.” Selah.
But You, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the One who lifts my head.Psalms 3:2-3
I loved singing this song back in the 80s. We sang it with a King James “Thou, O Lord, art a shield about me…” etc. David realized even when others see no way forward, God was still right there as a protection and encouragement. I see in my minds eye the moment when he is being exiled because of Absalom’s rebellion. While David slowly leaves and is mocked, there is an inner confidence that he exudes. It allows him to not return evil for evil.
Do I have this same resolve? Do I know that God is a shield about me? Is He my glory and the lifter of my head? Yes, Yes and Yes.
God, You are these to me on a daily basis in ways I can see, and many more I cannot. Oh thank you for your constant love and affection in my life. Help me again today to be who you want me to be and to complete the ministry ahead.
