Who Is A True Jew?

For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh. But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that which is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from men, but from God. Romans 2:28-29

Not everyone who goes to church is actually a Christian! Paul made the same point in his letter to the Romans. In this context, a Jew is one who is a descendant of Abraham, saved by God, in right relation to Him, an adherent of the Mosaic law. Today, we might say “Who is a true follower of Christ”? One may claim that because I go to such and such church, I am saved. But salvation is by God’s grace, through faith. It is evidenced by obedience and discredited by hypocrisy. So, we are to connect with God at a heart level and allow Him to cleanse us and empower us by the presence of His Spirit to live this life.

How am I on the inside? When I am judgmental, do I realize that is a sign of inward sickness?

God, help me be one who is (in this sense) a true Jew… one who by faith like Abraham have put my trust in faith in You. I am so grateful for Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who died for me and lives forevermore interceding on my behalf. Fill me today with Your Spirit anew, so I might reach out and love people one by one.
