Who Is My Brother And Mother?

brotherThen Jesus’ mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him. A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, “Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you.” “Who are my mother and my brothers?” he asked.
Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.” Mark 3:31-34

There is a great and vast spiritual family we join when God becomes our heavenly Father. Jesus said that those who do God’s will (which begins in a transforming moment of placing our faith and trust in Jesus), are his brothers and sisters and mothers. While we have our natural family, we also have a wonderful spiritual family as well.

Do I treat every Christian as if they are my brother and mother? Do I even treat my natural brother and mother as they should?

God, I am so glad for my natural brothers and mother and father. Help me to love and honor them as such. I also am grateful that You have called me into a great spiritual family made up of those who follow Jesus and call You our Father who is in heaven.
