Who Gets The Credit?

CreditIn those days Hezekiah became mortally ill; and he prayed to the Lord, and the Lord spoke to him and gave him a sign. But Hezekiah gave no return for the benefit he received, because his heart was proud; therefore wrath came on him and on Judah and Jerusalem. However, Hezekiah humbled the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the Lord did not come on them in the days of Hezekiah. 2 Chronicles 32:24-26

God gives grace to the humble. Its just what he does. Its so easy for pride to creep into the heart of a ruler. If you have ever led anything that succeeded you know this. In all of his accomplishments and even in the dramatic miraculous manner that God rescued Hezekiah from destruction, he began to take credit instead. Once God’s wrath was finished, His mercy came and with it great wealth. Hezekiah finished life on top because of God and his own humble heart.

What a great lesson for me. In all the good that God is doing around me, in me and through me… and I trying to take credit? Or, am I humbling myself and praising Him?

Today, O Lord, I again acknowledge that its all from You. You gave me a heart that is tender toward people, a mind that is keen, a body that is healthy, and resources I don’t deserve. You have surrounded me with encouraging people and filled my life with loving family and friends. You have answered my prayers for provision and protection often. May the name of the Lord be glorified in me and by my mouth.
