But where can wisdom be found?
And where is the place of understanding?
Man does not know its value, nor is it found in the land of the living.
The deep says, ‘It is not in me’; and the sea says, ‘It is not with me.’
Pure gold cannot be given in exchange for it, nor can silver be weighed as its price.
God understands its way, and He knows its place.
For He looks to the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens.
When He imparted weight to the wind and meted out the waters by measure,
When He set a limit for the rain and a course for the thunderbolt,
Then He saw it and declared it; He established it and also searched it out.
And to man He said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding. Job 28:12-15, 23-28
Job recognized something that far too few people ever do, that wisdom is precious and God is the provider of it. I meet way too many people who live by their own understanding and suffer for it. Their philosophy is fatally flawed because they live (as Solomon said in Ecclesiastes) ‘under the sun’. All they know and seek comes from within themselves, their own experience or the world. Instead of looking to God, who made them and has revealed His wonderful will and ways, they live apart from Him, making decisions that do not bring about eternal purposes.
If I examine my own life and decision making, would I find a person who seeks God for wisdom? Deep down, do I value what He has revealed as the way to live, or do I still think I have it all figured out?
Lord, the more I live, the more I find I need You and Your ways. I am grateful that some wisdom has found its way into my life, but oh I need more. Its just a mystery how to really live this life and accomplish the wonderful things You have planned apart from daily revelation from You and Your Word. Today, would You move me and move in me to accomplish something of value that will endure over time.
