When You See Oppression, Don’t Give Up!

With over half of the population living below the poverty line, women and children are often forced into hard manual labour such as brick breaking. Working barefoot and with rough untensils, each child worker earns less than 2$ US Dollars per day. (Photo by Mehedi Hasan/NurPhoto via Getty Images)

Oppression comes in many forms. It always has. Its contrary to God and His will. Especially troubling to me is the exploitation of children. When the weak are abused by the strong, powerful and rich instead of loved, nurtured, and encouraged- it is evidence of the sin and evil within the heart of mankind. Solomon contemplated the oppressed in his time and said its better to give up, than to address it. How fascinating that the richest and wisest man of his day wanted to give up (from a human standpoint). But, God has never given up. Jesus (the Son of the living God) came into our world and showed us how to live, love and address the oppression of his day. When you only see life ‘under the sun’ (from a world view without God), you will want to give up and very well, may give up. But, when we see, really see, from ‘under heaven’, we can accept the challenge, address the evils, and live our lives to honor God. And when we want to give up, (we will want to give up), don’t give up! You are too important and the redemptive mission of God is too important. Keep going my friends!

Then I looked again at all the acts of oppression which were being done under the sun. And behold I saw the tears of the oppressed and that they had no one to comfort them; and on the side of their oppressors was power, but they had no one to comfort them. So I congratulated the dead who are already dead more than the living who are still living. But better off than both of them is the one who has never existed, who has never seen the evil activity that is done under the sun. Ecclesiastes 4:1-3 NASB

How can I receive the encouragement from God and others? Who has He appointed for me along this wonderful journey?

God, as this day begins (continues)- I thank You that You have appointed prayer partners for me. Undeserved! But, oh I feel that I float on the prayers of Your holy people. You are my strength and shield. Help me never give up. But, each day, renew my strength in You. May the abiding Holy Spirit lead and guide me today. May I reach out and love someone in Your name and release the oppressed!
