What An Attitude!

I get mad about injustice. Sometimes I see situations where I want to scream at the TV. How about you? Recently, an outspoken Marine who earned the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, criticized his superiors (Yes, that is forbidden), because of their arrogant attitude to characterize the Afghanistan withdrawal as a success, when it was demonstrably a huge failure. No one in senior leadership was fired, demoted, even criticized. So, today he sits in jail, for saying what anyone with insight knows. This makes me so mad. But, if his sacrifice results in the truth being known and leaders held to account, I think he would feel its worth it. (btw, he will likely lose his lifelong retirement pension). What an attitude! When it comes to Christianity and the gospel of Christ… I hope I have a similar attitude. I love the example of the apostle Paul, “so long as the gospel is being preached, I will endure difficulty (even imprisonment) and the spite of others.” We could all adjust our attitude a bit, right? After all, our Lord, Savior and model in all things endured the cross for us.

And I want you to know, my dear brothers and sisters, that everything that has happened to me here has helped to spread the Good News. For everyone here, including the whole palace guard, knows that I am in chains because of Christ. And because of my imprisonment, most of the believers here have gained confidence and boldly speak God’s message without fear. Philippians 1:12-14 NLT

What joy can I find in facing injustice? Is God calling me to sacrifice my future money, current status, or anything else for the sake of righteousness and the gospel? Will I say ‘yes’?

God, as this day begins- Thank you for this example of courage. Bless this man and protect him. But, mostly bring about Your will and righteousness. Oh, our country is suffering and often deceitful and misguided. We need You. We need more than a revival, we need a resurrection. We are dead to You and lost and confused. For me, work within me today. Impart Your wisdom and use me as an instrument of Your love and truth. Give me increasing courage in a world that is devoid of it.
