Walk With The Wise

When I was younger I heard someone say “show me your friends and I will show you your future”. Really?! Of course, they were right in many regards. Our peers have a profound influence upon us. Solomon addressed that idea and promised, those who hang out with wise people, will eventually themselves be wise. He also said that prosperity will be a reward for the righteous. Remember though, that time and chance also play a role in attaining wealth. Its better to be poor with integrity. My favorite observation is that a good person (oh I want to be good in this respect) leaves an inheritance to his grandchildren. This means that we have saved to bless our kids and then beyond them, our grandkids. Now, that’s a motivation I don’t need any help with. I can’t wait to bless my cutie Kennedy-bear, Carter, and soon to come, unnamed grandson. Finally, then Solomon admonishes as parents and says be careful about spoiling children and not disciplining them in love. Its not always true, but in general, if we raise our kids well, we will enjoy our grandkids. If we don’t raise them well, we will raise our grandkids. Lol. Don’t take that too far.

One who walks with wise people will be wise,
But a companion of fools will suffer harm.
Adversity pursues sinners,
But the righteous will be rewarded with prosperity.
A good person leaves an inheritance to his grandchildren,
And the wealth of a sinner is stored up for the righteous.
Abundant food is in the uncultivated ground of the poor,
But it is swept away by injustice.
He who withholds his rod hates his son,
But he who loves him disciplines him diligently.
The righteous has enough to satisfy his appetite,
But the stomach of the wicked is in need. Proverbs 13:20-25 NASB

Who have I chosen to be friends and partners in life’s journey? How much wiser am I because of it?

God, as this day begins- We have much to do. And much to be. Would you renew me, forgive me for shortcomings and sin, activate me in Your kingdom to bring about Your will. May I reach out and love people in Your name. Thank you for the wise people in my life. Shall I name them? Only in my mind,… Now, I pray for those who are struggling, the weak and sick, and those with opportunities, and for those needing a financial breakthrough. God, would You show Your power, love, and wisdom to each of us!
