There isn’t really a course called Vampire Slaying 101. But, we all need to know the basics to kill the monster called the fleshly nature. When a vampire has a stake in its heart, it becomes immovable and lays dormant, even though it is still alive and can come back alive to do great harm- sucking the life out of everything and everyone. (at least in legend and the movies) In the same way, when I live according to my spiritual nature (the new man in Christ), I place a wooden stake in the heart of the fleshly man I used to be. So how do I do it? Not easy, that’s for sure. That old man of sin resurrects every morning when I awake. So, I must “put on” Christ (with prayer, worship, and Bible reading) and seek true knowledge about who I really am in Christ (after all, He knows who I am becoming)!
Therefore, treat the parts of your earthly body as dead to sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry. For it is because of these things that the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, and in them you also once walked, when you were living in them. But now you also, rid yourselves of all of them: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene speech from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you stripped off the old self with its evil practices, and have put on the new self, which is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created it— Colossians 3:5-10
What fleshly, worldly, disobedience remains in my life? Why? What true knowledge could persuade my conscience to slay the remaining vampires of earthly desires and allow me to put on the new nature?
God, as this day begins- I wonder what it would be like to walk through an entire day, completely connected to You, directed by spiritual desires and energy, and the old man completely crucified and staked to the ground where he belongs. God help me walk that way today.
