Two things I ask of you, Lord; do not refuse me before I die:
Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread.
Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’
Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God. Proverbs 30:7-9
Agur under God’s inspiration said the two things that help us honor God are telling the truth and contentment. His desire was that falsehood and lies would be far from him. Interestingly, he saw danger in having too little (poverty) and in having too much (excess riches).
How about me? Is truthfulness a high value in my life? Yes. What about riches? Do I desire to have more and more… or have I found contentment. For me the most important thing is my desire to honor the name of my God.
And so today God, may my life reflect truthfulness in all conversations and contentment with the riches that You provide. What a great life this is walking with You.
