I have made many mistakes over the years, experienced a fair amount of failure and disappointment too. Certainly, that has been balanced with some good decisions, success and joy. I feel that God has been so gracious by imparting to me wisdom along the way. For any person who seeks God and His wisdom in the seasons and circumstances in life, He promises favor, a good reputation, long life, riches and honor, a pleasant way, and path of peace. Jesus, the personification of wisdom, from an early age found favor with God and man. He exemplified a beautiful balance of truth and kindness. He is, of course, my example in all things. And oh, how our world needs a healthy dose of both!
My son, do not forget my teaching,
But have your heart comply with my commandments;
For length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you.
Do not let kindness and truth leave you;
Bind them around your neck,
Write them on the tablet of your heart.
So you will find favor and a good reputation
In the sight of God and man. Proverbs 3:1-4
Long life is in her right hand;
In her left hand are riches and honor.
Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. Proverbs 3:16-17
How deeply are ‘truth’ and ‘kindness’ ingrained in me? Have I learned how to balance the two in a God-honoring manner? Is there any area of my life where I have forgotten God’s teaching and not complied with His commandments?
God, as this day begins- I realize that You have been exceedingly gracious to me. I am aware of two areas of my life that are not fully in compliance with Your commands and will. I will guard my thoughts from negativity and complaint and I will exhibit the proper balance of ‘truth’ and ‘kindness’. Help me place good boundaries that lead to right living. Thank you that Your ways are pleasant and peaceful.
