And this is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, that you should walk in it. 2 John 1:6
John equates walking in love with walking in the truth. The truth found in the teaching and person of Jesus Christ always leads us to a life of love. We love God and we love one another. There are those in and around the church (“the elect lady”) who deceive people away from this simple and beautiful expression of Christianity. We should be on guard.
Has my life begun to reflect what the beloved apostle John wrote? Yes, in may ways. Am I watchful to protect others from deceit and teachings that “go too far and do not abide in the teaching of Christ”? I am fairly savvy to heresy and division in the church. I must be forceful (because I tend to err on the side of grace) in areas of bad doctrine and division.
God, what a privilege to walk in Your truth and love. My highest calling is to be more and more like Jesus. Help me in my role as a leader to protect others from deceitful teaching, even as You protect me.
