To What End?

to what endBut the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. 1 Timothy 1:5

What’s the most important thing you have ever learned? How has it helped you? As a teacher, to what end do we teach and instruct others? Paul told Timothy that the goal of teaching others is to build them up in love. (Love having its manifold expression described in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7) For love is the expression of Christlike character. The goal of the Christian life is to be like Jesus in word, thought and deed. We must be taught to love, so that it becomes our second nature. This then is how we prepare continually to fulfill the great commandment of God – love the Lord with all my heart, soul, mind and strength and love my neighbor as myself. These emanate from a good conscience and sincere and genuine (not phony) faith.

What am I trying to accomplish in the way I teach others? What evidence of fruit (love) is there in those I instruct, especially my own children?

God, thank you for the reminder today of the importance of what You have called me to. Help me stay clear on the goal. Jesus, are my motivation, my source, and my model in all things. Work mightily within our school ministry this week as we prepare and receive the children and families. May we love them well in Your name.
