So the Lord said to me, “Do not pray for the welfare of this people. When they fast, I am not going to listen to their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and grain offering, I am not going to accept them. Rather I am going to make an end of them by the sword, famine and pestilence.” Jeremiah 14:11-12
There was a popular TV show where celebrity guests tried to deceive the contestants. It was called To Tell The Truth. In the midst of a major drought, Jeremiah sought the Lord on behalf of the people of Israel. But God said ‘do not pray for their welfare’. He had to tell the truth! Meanwhile, many other prophets were saying that war and famine would not come upon God’s people. They were speaking falsehood. Sometimes telling the truth is unpopular or worrisome to the hearer. Jeremiah was often a lone voice for God in this time.
How about me? Am I willing to speak truth and hear it too? Has God allowed any drought in my life to bring about repentance?
God, thank you for Your goodness. There are some areas of ministry that need Your touch and guidance. Would you powerfully move by the power of Your Spirit in us to bring harmony and agreement where needed?
