Those “Why” Questions

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants, that I may perform these signs of Mine among them, and that you may tell in the hearing of your son, and of your grandson, how I made a mockery of the Egyptians and how I performed My signs among them, that you may know that I am the Lord.” Exodus 10:1-2 NASB

Sometimes my young children would ask “Why?, Daddy”. Those dog gone “Why” questions are often the hardest to answer. For instance, Why does God allow suffering and evil in our world? There’s a two hour explanation ahead. One of the reasons God gives for all the plagues on Egypt is to create a remembrance for His people that could strengthen their faith in the future. God would demonstrate His love and power in such dramatic ways that even the grand kids would talk about Him and know that when they need God, He is able to care for them. He demonstrated that is the Lord.

What has God done in my life that strengthened my faith? How do I rely on the fact that He is Lord to help me in times of trouble?

God, as this day begins- Thank you that often You do give us the answers to “Why” in life. As we gather for worship on the patio and online, I pray we might remind ourselves of many of the wonderful character qualities of Christ that emanate from Your throne and are available for us to “put on” and like Jesus in word, thought and deed. Inhabit the praises of Your people today.
