Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord,
When I will raise up for David a righteous Branch and He will reign as king and act wisely and do justice and righteousness in the land.
In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely; and this is His name by which He will be called,
The Lord our righteousness. Jeremiah 23:5-6
Jeremiah spoke of a time when God would raise up a righteous king again, a Savior who would bring peace. He would be ‘our righteousness’. This prophecy is fulfilled spiritually in the coming of Jesus Christ and one day it will happen physically at His second coming. Believers in Christ have security, forgiveness of sins, and the imputed righteousness of Jesus. So, in one sense, there will be a glorious day when Jesus reigns upon the earth. But, for us who believe, that day has come in our hearts.
Am I appreciating all the blessings that come as a result of David’s righteous Branch? How am I like him? Do I act wisely, do justice and righteousness in the land?
God, what a reminder in the midst of Jeremiah’s pronouncement of judgement that You planned all along a way of salvation. This morning as the son is about to rise, I pray that You will do what only You can do. Help me do well today and experience Your favor. Because Jesus reigns in my heart, let this be a day of dwelling securely in the Lord my righteousness.
