But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. 2 Timothy 3:1-5
The time before Jesus’ return will be marked with misplaced love. Contrary to the desire of God that we would love Him with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and love our neighbor (everyone else) as ourselves, people will love themselves! How ugly it gets when we focus our ourselves. It literally is terrible. But, God’s way brings joy into our lives and a great sense of purpose.
Am I loving God and the people He has placed in my life? How much of my heart is held hostage to myself, money, boasting and pride, etc.?
God, please continue to transfer the gaze of my soul away from myself and my desires. May I gaze upon You first and to allow You to direct my affection and love to others who need it. Thank you that You provide all I need in this life.
