The “S” Word

Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is stupid.
Good people obtain favor from the Lord, but he condemns those who devise wicked schemes. Proverbs 12:1-2

One time I was corrected by a fourth grader. “Mr. Husen, we don’t use the “S” word.” He was referring to the word stupid. And in general he is right, its a harsh word. The word used here (ba ar) refers to the way a cow would be. A wise man will invite correction into his life.

How about me? Am I so sensitive and insecure that I cannot receive correction? How do I respond to others who correct me? Do I value them? If not, I may be “S”.

God, in this thirty days of sharpening myself with Your Word and particularly wisdom, I want to humbly ask for the wisdom from above. Thank you for the Bible. Thank you that you have sent wise counselors my way. Help me to listen to you and others today.
