My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you.
Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye.
Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.
Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” and to insight, “You are my relative.”
They will keep you from the adulterous woman, from the wayward woman with her seductive words. Proverbs 7:1-5
There are lots of traps in life. Getting caught up in a one night stand with a prostitute may seem like it could never happen. But, in reality the temptation will come into a young man’s life more likely than not. Solomon’s advice is profound. Treat God’s wisdom as a beloved sister and cherish insight from the Lord and godly advisers as a favorite relative. In doing so, we will extend our life and avoid great sinful traps.
Do I value God’s wisdom above my own experience, will power, and knowledge? Who are the advisers in my life?
God, what a wonderful admonition from scripture and the wisdom and observations of Solomon. Since I am your child and young man, please continue to advise me from Your Word, insight from Your Spirit, and the wonderful counsel of godly friends. Today, I am looking forward to You building unity and helping me accomplish the great tasks ahead. Would you continue to give me favor with those around me?
