The Mystery Of Godliness

mystery of godlinessI am writing these things to you, hoping to come to you before long; but in case I am delayed, I write so that you will know how one ought to conduct himself in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth. By common confession, great is the mystery of godliness:

He who was revealed in the flesh,
Was vindicated in the Spirit,
Seen by angels,
Proclaimed among the nations,
Believed on in the world,
Taken up in glory. 1 Timothy 3:14-16

Where do people go when they need the truth? Paul wanted his understudy Timothy to help people know God’s expectations. We as the church are the household of God, the people called out to serve the living God. He desires us to be the pillar and support of the truth. The basis of that truth begins with the revelation of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, come in the flesh. He died a vicarious death upon the cross and was vindicated and raised to life by the Spirit of God. See was seen by angels and has been proclaimed among the nations (particularly on the day of Pentecost). He has been believed upon. And he ascended to the right hand of the throne of God. As we respond to this reality, the mystery of godliness or how to live in a way that pleases God, become evident in our lives. Timothy was to protect and promote these ideals.

How am I a pillar and support of the truth? What do I understand about the mystery of godliness?

God what a high calling for Timothy and every pastor today. May we be found faithful in helping people know how to conduct themselves in the household of God. Use me today to share Your truth with those I meet. Thank you for all those faithful teachers before me who have helped me understand the mystery of godliness.
