Have you noticed that sometimes the best encouragement or advice comes at the end of a letter or sermon. I feel like that is the case with Paul’s letter to the people in Corinth. He addresses all sorts of concerns, reminds them of the preeminence of love, assurance of the resurrection and then… he says stay alert and aware of our role in the world, don’t compromise in your faith, face opposition with courage, be strong enough to endure hardship or persecution. Never has that encouragement been needed today. He uses a colloquialism “act like men” which means The Greek word Paul uses is andrizesthe, which literally means “be courageous” or “conduct yourselves bravely.” It was a common expression in the ancient world—not about gender superiority, but about maturity, courage, and resolve under pressure. Lord help me be like that!

Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. All that you do must be done in love. 1 Corinthians 15: 16:14 NASB

How obvious is it that Jesus is my Master? How courageous and I in living according to my faith and how likely am I to stand when challenged for it?

God, as this day begins- I renew my commitment to You and Your ways. I swore allegiance 46 years ago when I accepted Your forgiveness and love. Today, may I be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act courageously and be strong. I know its only possible because of the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. I give You full control of my life. Amen.
