Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:5-8
I make lists. Lists of what to buy at the store, things to do, projects, people,… all kinds of lists. This Bible gives us a list of important Christians virtues or character qualities that make us ever useful in God’s economy. They are faith, moral excellence, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness and love. The bookends are faith and love. All are important and reveal a saving faith.
Am I growing in these? Many of them, yes. Some need attention and exercise.
God, I want to be useful in the true knowledge of Jesus Christ. In other words Lord, I want to be am impact player in Your service. I believe You called me and revealed Yourself to me when I placed my faith in Jesus. Help me, by the power of Your indwelling Spirit to grow in these qualities today.
