Nehemiah said, Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength. Nehemiah 8:10
Ezra and Nehemiah called God’s people together to read the Word of God. Then they instructed them to eat their favorite foods, share with others, declare the day holy and rejoice. This is the reaction when we discover again the wonderful promises and truths in the Bible.
Is this the way I feel when I read the Bible? Yes, especially as I experience God’s promises and when I respond in obedience.
God, today I pray that your joy will be my strength, even as it so often is. In the midst of fasting from Dr. Pepper, coffee and Fox News channel, I still can have great enjoyment from You and Your Word.
