The God Who Provides

I have a lot of friends. I love them all, but I wouldn’t trade my sons for any one of them! Some stories in the Bible are so stunning, confusing, yet powerful that you can’t read them and not marvel at God’s amazing redemptive plan. He reconciles His righteousness with His grace, showing His absolute Sovereignty and goodness. God provides for us in the most tenuous circumstances. He is rightfully- The God Who Provides “Jehovah Jireh”. So it is, with the story of Abraham and Isaac. God asks Abraham to sacrifice the very child of promise given to him, his sole heir. It makes little sense now, imagine then and there. But, in faith and obedience, Abraham lifts the knife. God intervenes. Note that,… God intervenes. He did then, He did in history by sending Jesus (the ultimate child of promise), and He intervenes today. God, so loved the world that He gave (sacrificed like Abraham) His only begotten Son that whosoever would believe in Him, would not perish but have everlasting life. The faith of Abraham led to the blessing of all mankind. I wonder blessings will come about as you and I exercise our faith?

Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” And he said, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”  Abraham said, “God will provide for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” So the two of them walked on together. Genesis 22:7-8 NASB

What step of faith is God requesting of me today? What blessings will follow?

God, as this day begins- I am amazed at Your great love and magnificent plan of redemption. While I don’t always understand Your plan, I accept it and trust that You remain in control and are the God who provides- Jehovah Jireh!
