The Goal of the Christian Life

When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.” John 1:47

The goal of the Christian life is “Christ-likeness”, to be like Jesus Christ in character, thought, and action. When Jesus began to call his disciples, Philip wanted Nathanael to come along. Jesus recognized that he was without guile. In other words, he was honest, a somewhat unique character trait. In Matthew 10:25 Jesus said “It is enough for the disciple that he become like his teacher, and the slave like his master.”

What would Jesus recognize about me? What qualities has God placed in me and developed to reflect His character?

God, may I become more like Jesus today and reflect His glorious character. By the power of the Holy Spirit, lead and guide my thoughts and actions.
