The Foolishness Of The Cross

For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written,
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the cleverness of the clever I will set aside.”
Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. 1 Corinthians 1:18-21

No man or clever author could have conceived of the plan God has for saving mankind. The whole idea of the cross is ludicrous until you embrace its significance and profound power to transform a life and world. Who would ever come up with the idea of redeeming a rebellious world by sacrificing your own Son? God is well-pleased with the plan and the preaching of it today.

How do I view and value Jesus, the cross, and the gospel? Am I one who has embraced it and boldly proclaims it?

God in heaven, I come before you this morning in Jesus’ name, thanking You for the cross and the salvation afforded me. I am thinking about our volunteers at Royal Family Kids camp… strengthen them and give them breakthroughs with the foster kids they are serving. Help them operate as a team on these final days of camp. Bless them richly. Likewise, for those in Kenya (esp. Doug and his wife), give them extra energy to pour out their hearts in service to the people there. Use them to bring encouragement, excitement, and joy to those they meet. For each, may they know the cross is not foolishness, but its the power of God unto salvation.
