The Lord said to Moses: “Bring me seventy of Israel’s elders who are known to you as leaders and officials among the people. Have them come to the tent of meeting, that they may stand there with you. I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take some of the power of the Spirit that is on you and put it on them. They will share the burden of the people with you so that you will not have to carry it alone. Numbers 11:16-15
God gave Moses help to deal with the complainers. What a wonderful way that God met the needs of a man who was so desperate he was ready for God to let him die. Complaining can take its toll on any leader. But, we are not to bear the burden alone. Older people who have endured suffering and complainers in the past are wonderful allies in seasons where complaints can exhaust leadership.
How have I found the balance between being sensitive to complaints and dismissive of them? Do I ‘take it all on myself’? Or do I share the complaints that people make?
God, thank you that you do not miss the complaints that I receive. I imagine Your day is filled with them. Thank you for the partnership I feel with other leaders and with You.
