The Birth Of The Church

birth of churchNow when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, Brethren, what shall we do?”
Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself.”
And with many other words he solemnly testified and kept on exhorting them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation!” So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls.
They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Acts 2:37-42

Following Jesus ascension, the Spirit of God moved Jesus’ followers who were gathered for prayer and waiting for the promise of the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit. He came into their midst, their bodies, minds and spirit with power! Power for what purpose? The same as it is today… power to live holy and witness to the life, message and significance of Jesus Christ. And what a result, 3,000 saved, baptized and plugged into a new fellowship of believers. How awesome it would be to see a ‘re-birth’ in our day in this place.

When was my heart pierced and convinced that I needed Jesus? What kind of witness as I today?

Jesus, this morning I as grateful to be part of the great family of God called the church. May we all in this town receive people into our fellowships that You are saving. May pastors and preachers share the Word of God with power and see hearts pierced with the truth and souls added. Is revival in the air?
