The plans of the heart belong to man,
But the answer of the tongue is from the Lord. Proverbs 16:1

Commit your works to the Lord
And your plans will be established. v. 3

The mind of man plans his way,
But the Lord directs his steps. v. 9

There is a way which seems right to a man,
But its end is the way of death. v. 25

The lot is cast into the lap,
But its every decision is from the Lord. v. 33

Poet Robert Burns got it right… “The best laid plans of mice and men, oft go awry. No matter how carefully a project is planned, something may still go wrong with it.” That’s why we should acknowledge God’s role in shaping our lives and future. Solomon explored this idea in his collection of proverbs. Here, he reminds us that plans committed to the Lord can be established. So, a wise man will ‘pray about’ the big and little decisions in life, recognizing the stern warning that ‘there is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death (destruction).

How’s my prayer life? How am I in constant communication with God and allowing Him to direct my steps?

God, as this day begins… I have such a long list of tasks to accomplish. Would you establish what really needs to be done? I hope to engage in at least one thing that makes an eternal difference in someone’s life. Please bless me and work through me in Your power and wisdom.
