Keep me as the apple of the eye;
Hide me in the shadow of Your wings
As for me, I shall behold Your face in righteousness;
I will be satisfied with Your likeness when I awake. Psalms 17:8,15
David had many oppressors who sought to take his life. He viewed them as worldly people who gave little or no thought about God and eternity. The sum of their desires were for earthly treasure and leaving that to their children. But David, would only be satisfied with God Himself. He fully expected to awake from death and be in the presence of the Lord.
Do I desire God’s favor? Do I want to be the apple of God’s eye (constantly in his sight)? Yes and Yes. I want God to watch me throughout the day, hear what I say, and take pleasure in me as His creation.
God, hid me also in the shadow of Your wing, in a place where harm does not befall me, and when it does, that You might come to my rescue. I want to be both in Your presence and in Your likeness.
