See how great a forest is set aflame by such a small fire! And the tongue is a fire, the very world of iniquity; the tongue is set among our members as that which defiles the entire body, and sets on fire the course of our life, and is set on fire by hell. James 3:5-6
James reminds us that the things we say are a matter of life and death. Our words reveal the heart and they will guide our actions. So how does one get control of their tongue? How is it bridled? The answer is that I must be transformed in my heart and mind. How I think and feel must be aligned to be the same as Christ Jesus. In essence, my old way must die and He must start from scratch showing me the right way. Then my words will be “as the oracle of God”.
How am I doing in this area? Sometimes there is a temporary resurrection of the old man, who should be dead and gone. At other times, its true, God has changed even the way I feel, and its expressed in my words.
Lord Jesus, moment by moment help me know what to say. I commit ahead of time to know You in prayer and through the gospel. May my words be synonymous with yours.
