Behold, God is my helper;
The Lord is the sustainer of my soul.
He will recompense the evil to my foes;
Destroy them in Your faithfulness. Psalm 54:4-5
David’s life is an epic tale of trusting in God. At perilous moments he calls out to God and finds help just in the time of need. Psalm 54 reminds us that their are adversaries and foes in life. But, there also is a God who is our helper and sustainer of our very soul. Jesus said ‘come unto Me all who are weary and heavy-laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and humble in spirit and I will give you rest for your soul’.
How am I relying upon God as my helper? Am I too self-sufficient, where my actions show I think I can accomplish everything in life apart from His help?
God, I am thinking about dependence and how I need You to sustain me. I know that You do. I am grateful that You abide with me and in me. Your Spirit is alive in me. As this day unfolds, would You season every conversation with grace and bind up any broken-heartedness that arises?
