Supreme

Christmas is still a few months away. But, as it approaches- we will be thinking about the baby in the manger and more profoundly how God came near to mankind. The creator entered His own creation. We call this the incarnation, (Deity taking on flesh) or more crassly but accurately said, “Jesus was God in a bod(y)”. We may miss that while He took on human form, He remains Divine. An early church poem captures the idea and how wonderfully supreme, Christ Jesus is. Is He supreme in your life? Supreme: highest in rank or authority; paramount; sovereign; chief, of highest quality, degree, character, importance.

Christ is the visible image of the invisible God.
He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation,
16 for through him God created everything
in the heavenly realms and on earth.
He made the things we can see
and the things we can’t see—
such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world.
Everything was created through him and for him.
17 He existed before anything else,
and he holds all creation together.
18 Christ is also the head of the church,
    which is his body.
He is the beginning,
supreme over all who rise from the dead.[f]
So he is first in everything.
19 For God in all his fullness
was pleased to live in Christ,
20 and through him God reconciled
    everything to himself.
He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth
by means of Christ’s blood on the cross. Colossians 1:15-20 NLT

How is Jesus my God, supremacy, creator, first, sustainer of all things, head, beginning, resurrection, fullness, reconciler, and peacemaker?

God, as this day begins- I acknowledge that Jesus is not just ‘better than’ anyone who has ever lived. He is categorically ‘different from’ anyone. His is my all and all. Supreme! May I regard Him as such in the way I live today. He is both my source and goal, example in all things. Oh, I need need Him in my life and want Him to be the ruler of it. To all He requests, I say yes!
