Strong Tower

I like to travel with my wife. Some people do not like to travel. But, there is an education in travel. I especially like learning the history in the ancient world in places like Israel, Germany, Italy. This September, Maureen and I will go with a group to Greece and discover what Christianity was like in the first century. In the ancient world travel was dangerous. Often between cities, were castles or outposts with towers. From the tower, overlords could keep travelers safe. Travelers could see the source of their protection and safety. A tower is the sign of safety. People find their security today in wealth, skill, health, etc. But, for a believer the Lord is our strong tower. We can run to him and find safety in all circumstances. Solomon wrote about it and King David sang about it. Let’s call upon the name of the Lord today in whatever situation we find ourselves.

The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. The wealth of the rich is their fortified city; they imagine it a wall too high to scale. Before a downfall the heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor. Proverbs 18:10-12 NIV; The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Psalm 18:2 NIV

In what or whom do I place my trust? How and how often am I calling upon the name of the Lord? Am I walking in righteousness?

God, as this day begins- there is something great about starting it within Your Holy World (Bible). I place myself and needs before You, trusting You are aware and care. Give me the insight to live this day for Your glory. Help me accomplish the God-honoring tasks ahead. Lead me to reach out and love someone in Your name (even as you have already- allowing me to jumpstart that young father’s car so he could get his son to the doctor). You are my strong tower that I run into.
