Star Struck

There is a self deception that can occur when we idolize people. I really liked listening to and watching TV news commentator Bill O’Reilly. I watched The Factor, listened to his audiobooks (The Killing series), and Kaenan and I went to see him speak in downtown LA. Then, the big fall from grace- he lost his marriage, his role on FoxNews, and I am sure his dignity too. I was saddened by his downfall. But then, God gave me Tucker Carlson! (I am just kidding- wanted to drive the liberals crazy for a moment). Lol. We love our American idols! Whether they are pop stars, rock stars, athletes, or even political figures. But again, when we put too much focus, emphasis, or emotion into people (who we likely don’t really know at all), we will be disappointed and sometimes carried along by their ‘so called’ wisdom instead of guided by the mind of Christ and scripture. Let’s not be star struck any longer but measure all things said by the Word of God and the Son of God.

Take care that no one deceives himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, he must become foolish, so that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in the sight of God. For it is written: “He is the one who catches the wise by their craftiness”; and again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are useless.” So then, no one is to be boasting in people.  1 Corinthians 2:18-20 NASB

Do I find myself boasting about people more than Jesus Christ? Why is that? Does it reveal something lacking in my spiritual development or my personal relationship with God?

God, as this day begins- I thank you for great people who exemplify godly values. May they occupy a proper place in my heart. Would you continue to amplify the desire in my heart to know You and to glorify You in my life. Help me desire the wisdom from above and to reject the so-called wisdom of the world. I hope I am not one self deceived. Rescue me with the truth from any error in thinking. Thank you for helping me solve problems yesterday and I ask for Your help today. I can’t imagine life without this growing knowledge of my creator, savior, and Lord. With You I remain Star Struck!!!
