So-Called “Recreational” Marijuana?

What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be! Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?

Ultimately, sinful activity leads to death. Either it will manifest in spiritual separation from God and it can lead to physical death. The apostle Paul warns that we should not use the grace of God as a license to sin. Whatever or whoever we submit ourselves to becomes our Master. How much better it is to submit to God and not anything else that would control our mind and behavior. I see many people using their new found legal freedom (smoking and consuming marijuana) to their own detriment, unaware that it can enslave them. In my opinion, “recreational” use is a misnomer. A user is not re-created, restored, or improved, quite the opposite- marijuana dilutes dreams, saps energy and ambition, and dulls creativity. You become less of who God made you to be, not more.

To what in my life have I submitted my attention or affection as a substitute in place of the living and true God and His provisions for me?

God, in You and your ways are life. Use me today as a vessel for honor. I pray you meet the health needs of those in my circle of influence… my mom, friend Monty, and JT’s granddaughter. You are good and in You is life.
