Smell Ya Later

I enjoy the actor Will Smith quite a bit. One of his signature lines from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air is “Yo Holmes, Smell ya Later”. That always makes me laugh. As Christians we will make an impression upon everyone we meet. The apostle Paul says, that impression is like a lasting smell to them that indicates how well we have come to really know Jesus Christ. The more we know Him, the better we will smell to those interested in spiritual maturity, God, and godliness. We remind them of the goodness of God and hope of heaven. But, to those perishing who are still in rebellion to God, we aggravate the snot out of them. We stink! We don’t compromise to please them, instead accept that not everyone will respond positively to us living out our faith in God.

But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us reveals the fragrance of the knowledge of Him in every place. For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing: to the one an aroma from death to death, to the other an aroma from life to life. And who is adequate for these things?  For we are not like the many, peddling the word of God, but as from sincerity, but as from God, we speak in Christ in the sight of God. 2 Corinthians 2:14-17 NLT

How clear is the aroma coming from my life? Does it reflect the love of God and my personal knowledge of my Savior Jesus Christ?

God, as this day begins, I am grateful for the transforming power of the Holy Spirit in my life. I do feel I know You through Jesus. I give You free reign to lead and guide today. Help me love people in Your name. Help me with insight, skill and wisdom throughout the day. I hope people look forward to their interactions with me because I have the aroma of life unto life. May they say “Yo Holmes, Smell ya Later”,… as we look forward to our times together. It really is great being a Christian and experiencing the joy of fellowship.
